David F. Petrzelka, 87, of Burlington, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 31, 2007. He was born on January 24, 1920 in Norway, Iowa, the son of Anna & Joseph Petrzelka. He grew up in Amana and went on to attend University of Iowa where he earned a bachelor's degree in business. In 1942, he joined the Navy and became a naval pilot in the Pacific Theater in WWII. He ended his military duty stationed at Whidbey NAS. David met Pearl L. Nelson of Stanwood in 1945 and they were married in June of 1948. His career in accounting in the agricultural industry took them several places. They made their home in Burlington in 1963. He worked at JW Feed and later became a partner in Agrichem. He retired in 1985. He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His children and grandchildren have many fond memories of times together at their cabin on Camano Island, where he loved entertaining family and friends with salmon barbecues. His hobbies included golfing, gardening, crabbing and clamdigging, woodworking, traveling, stamp and coin collecting, and spending time with family. David is survived by his wife, Pearl, of 59 years, five children, eleven grandchildren, & one great grandchild. They include a son and daughter-in-law, Jon & Linda Petrzelka, their children Kylee, Brett Steinbeck & Jennifer Steinbeck, son Joel Petrzelka, son & daughter-in-law Paul & Julie Petrzelka, their children Dan & Kathleen Petrzelka and great grandson Harvey, and Nicole & Jared Simon, daughter & son-in-law, Nancy & Jon Edson, their children Jordan, Nicholas & Ryan, & daughter Beth VanPutten & her children Adam, Drew & Anna. He is also survived by brother & sister-in-law, Don & Laura Petrzelka of Atlanta, GA, sister, Helen Kopecky of Cedar Rapids, IA, Alice Barnett of Dayton, WY and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna & Joseph, and one brother, Joseph, all of Iowa. David was a member of St, Charles Catholic Church. His belief and love of God were very important to him. He was also a member of Skagit Golf & Country Club, Mount Vernon Elks Lodge, and the Flying Hawkeyes. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Burlington. A reception will follow at the church. A private burial will be held at Anderson Cemetery in Stanwood. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association at 710 Second Avenue, Suite 900, Seattle, WA 98104 or a charity of your choice.
