200 "Accidentally lost his life at the railroad near South Amana. He had had gone to check on the cattle in the meadow by the Iowa River. On the way home, as he was crossing the railway bridge, a train struck him, tossing him some ten feet into the air. He was so badly injured, also from the fall, that he died within the hour. This happened on 1 October 1879. (Translator’s note: This was my great grandfather. Our account reads: “He wanted to get across the bridge east of the sand hole (no bridge there now). A through freight caught him, splintering one foot, broke his right arm, tore into his side and threw him ten paces down the dam (track elevation). Henry Ruff)" (S0015) Sigel, Johann Gottfried (I2818)
